OutPatient Clinic

Kentuckiana Children’s Center has been in operation for over 40 years. Founded by Dr. Lorraine Golden in 1957, The Center is now managed by a Board of Directors, with Sharon A. Vallone, D.C. serving as Chairman. There are currently 140 active files that are managed by a clinical team and who received over $100,000 of health services in 1998. Jean Elizabeth is the Executive Director.

Goals & Mission
The ongoing emphasis at Kentuckiana is on special programs individually designed to help the child with special needs. Our goal is to have each child reach his or her optimum potential. We achieve this by:

  • Providing quality chiropractic health care to children with special needs regardless of their ability to pay for those services
  • Providing a health assessment, chiropractic treatment, nutritional counseling
  • Providing psychosocial intervention
  • Providing health education for families, educators and health care professionals
  • Facilitating research and promoting multidisciplinary collaborative efforts
  • Enhancing community awareness of children’s health issues

Services
Comprehensive tests and evaluations are used to help determine the child’s needs. A personalized corrective care program is planned and then implemented to meet those needs, incorporating a comprehensive array of health services (as available):

  • Chiropractic Care
  • Social Work Counseling/Family Intervention/Advocacy
  • Mineral Analysis*/Nutritional Planning*
  • Dental Screening
  • Referral for Other Specialized Services as Needed*

The staff at The Center monitors each child’s progress through open and continuous communication. This team approach provides everyone involved with a better understanding of the conditions, needs and progress of each child. The Center also gives the children, even those labeled "hopeless" – encouragement and loving care to help them achieve a richer more meaningful life.

Special Children Served
Many of the children we serve have not benefited from other programs. Their unique special needs often require specialized, costly, long-term care. Many of the families come to The Center as a "last resort", when they are emotionally and financially drained. The children are provided these services regardless of their ability to pay.

The special needs of the children we are currently serving include but are not limited to:

  • Scoliosis
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Down Syndrome and Other Congenital Disorders
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Allergies/Asthma/Enuresis/Headaches

Since its beginning in 1957, Kentuckiana Children’s Center has served children with special needs from 37 states in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and India. Referrals for care come from a variety of sources including the personal recommendation of satisfied parents and from professionals in the fields of health and education. While we don’t promise miracles, we have helped hundreds of children lead healthier lives despite their individual challenge.

Clinical Services
New Patient Evaluations

  1. Detailed Physical Exam
  2. Full Spine or Sectional X-Ray Series as Required
  3. Urinalysis
  4. Trace Mineral Analysis (Hair Analysis) Performed by Doctor’s Data (Chicago, IL)* or Analytical Lab (Phoenix, AZ)*
  5. Referral to Our Social Services if Indicated.

Referrals made to other professionals:

  • Dental Evaluation*
  • Visual Screening*/Visual Therapy*
  • Advanced Diagnostic Imaging* or Laboratory Analysis*
  • Further Specialized Evaluation (orthopedic*/neurological*/psychological*/etc.)
  • Additional Functional Testing Available through Great Smokies Lab*
  • Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis with or without Parasitology
  • IgG/IgE Food Allergy and Environmental Sensitivity Testing
  • Chiropractic Adjusting Utilizing a Variety of Techniques
  • Nutritional Counseling and Supplementation Recommendations*
  • Consultation and Follow-up Conferences with Parents and Care Givers

Disclaimer: * There may be fees associated with services provided by any provider or agency outside of Kentuckiana Children’s Center. There is a fee for nutritional supplementation.

Besides the outpatient services provided to the residents of the local Kentuckiana area, doctors from all over the country refer patients to The Center for expert pediatric chiropractic evaluation and recommendations.
