C-445: Attention Deficit Disorder
Stephen was 11 years old when referred to Kentuckiana. He had been previously
diagnosed by a psychologist as a hyperactive child with Attention Deficit
Disorder. And he had repeated the second grade in a parochial school.
The Center's outpatient clinic provided a
comprehensive evaluation which revealed several functional disorders. The
professional services included spinal adjustments to reduce a seven millimeter
atlas subluxation, visual therapy to improve a perceptual disorder, nutritional
supplements to ameliorate a carbohydrate metabolistic disorder and a special
education program to enhance his academic ability.
For 2 years Stephen attended the Kentuckiana special education program. Mrs.
Roberta Davis, its Director, states, "In addition to his academic improvements
during this time, Stephen's self-esteem improved and he developed a desire
to return to the public school system and put forth the effort needed to
succeed." Incidentally, this happened without the need for Ritalin.
Today, Stephen continues in a public school program where he started out
in a behavioral modification program. Recently his mother wrote us, "Stephen
has continued to do well in his regular Math and Reading classes. This week
a regular science class is to be added. He has also been accepted into the
Shawnee H. S. Aviation Program. We've come such a long . . . We will always
be grateful for all that Kentuckiana has done for us."
